![]() ![]() ![]() Gameplay itself, even with another player, poses some interesting challenges. Playing solo, while possible, presents a far less entertaining experience. Frankly, the game is designed to be played cooperatively. While the challenge of controlling both racers at once will appeal to some, I can certainly see how it would frustrate others. I do recommend playing the game with at least one other person. The game offers assorted modes including private race and campaign modes, and you and your partner have the option to play against the clock or against other players, locally or online. The art-style is adorable, and the music sets the overall wacky tone for the game. The maps are unique and pose interesting challenges that capitalize on the unique “tethering” mechanic that sets the game apart from others in the genre. However, despite my own antipathy for the experience, Fling to the Finish is a really well constructed game, especially considering the game is still in Early Access after releasing on August 23rd. I therefore found my time on the maps to be an exercise in frustration. ![]() Fling to the Finish is not the sort of game that I like to play, and as a result, I’m not terribly good at it. If you’re playing alone, you’ll control both racers simultaneously, one with the keyboard and one with the mouse. Cooperation is key to success in this game because you’ll both have to use various tricks in order to keep each other squarely on the maps. You and your partner, if you have one, play racers tethered together by an elastic band and try to navigate race maps jam packed with obstacles. Plot Ahoy!īecause Fling to the Finish is a cooperative racing game, there isn’t much in the way of plot. You can play Fling to the Finish as a single player, but you will be splitting your attention between your keyboard and mouse.Īside from that, Fling to the Finish is a surprisingly fun, polished game considering that it’s still in Early Access on the Steam platform, and has yet to make it to the Nintendo Switch, where the developer says it will eventually land. The primary drawback is that the game really does feel designed to be played best with multiple players. What engine was used for the development?įling to the Finish was created using Unity, our weapon of choice to tackle all the smaller and bigger obstacles that occur during the development of an online multiplayer game.įling to the Finish will be Windows only for release, though we provide an experimental Mac build on the beta branch and will release it as a stable version as soon as possible. When they're not in classes, they spend all their free time working on their premiere title. When partners master using their rope, they're capable of acrobatic feats unachievable in any other platformer! And if this isn’t challenging enough, you can even become the team all by yourself, controlling both characters of the team at once - at your own risk.įling to the Finish is the debut release and passion project of small indie studio SplitSide Games, consisting of students from Drexel University. Experienced players can use the rope to swing around perilous obstacles, and fling their partner up ledges before they fall to their doom. But as you quickly improve your communication skills you'll learn that the rope is your biggest asset. When you and your friends first pick up the game your rope will get tangled in practically everything you pass. Fling to the Finish is a cooperative racing game where multiple teams of players race through colorful, chaotic obstacle courses while tethered by a stretchy elastic rope. ![]()
